Trump Threatens Oman Over Hormuz Talks, Demands Iran Surrender

US President Donald Trump has threatened Oman with military action if the country obstructs efforts by the United States to reach an agreement with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump made the remarks on Monday during an interview with Fox News journalist Trey Yingst, amid ongoing diplomatic discussions involving Iran, Oman and the United States over the strategically important waterway.

“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the … out of them,” Trump was quoted as saying while referring to negotiations between Oman and Iran concerning future arrangements for maritime navigation through the strait.

Iranian and Omani officials have reportedly held discussions for several weeks, with Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirming that both sides were working towards a joint declaration on the issue.

The Strait of Hormuz has become a major point of tension amid the wider conflict involving Iran and the United States and its allies. Tehran has effectively restricted traffic through the waterway, which is a major route for global energy shipments.

Trump has repeatedly asserted that the United States should have control over the strategic waterway. On Friday, he reportedly suggested that the US could even declare the Strait of Hormuz part of American territory.

Iran, however, rejected the claim, insisting that the waterway would remain under Iranian control.

The strait lies between Iran to the north and Oman to the south and has traditionally been regarded as an international maritime route. Its strategic importance stems from the large volume of oil and other energy products transported through the area.

Trump also called on Iran to surrender, saying Tehran should “put up the white flag of surrender.” He maintained that he was not in a hurry to reach a deal with Iran despite growing political pressure over the conflict in the United States.

The US president also claimed that his administration maintains a direct back-channel with officials of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The escalating rhetoric comes as diplomatic efforts continue over the future of the Strait of Hormuz, with any prolonged disruption to shipping through the waterway potentially having significant consequences for global energy markets and international trade.
