Norway’s King Harald Hospitalised After Health Deteriorates
Norway’s King Harald has been reported to be in a stable condition after his health deteriorated over the weekend.
The 89-year-old monarch, who is Europe’s oldest living king, was admitted to the National Hospital in Oslo about a week ago. Palace officials said he is receiving treatment for a bacterial blood infection and has responded positively to antibiotics.
King Harald has been on sick leave for several weeks and has experienced several health-related hospitalisations in recent years. His blood disorder and treatment have also caused fluid to build up in his body, requiring medical attention.
Earlier this year, he was hospitalised in Tenerife after falling ill while on holiday.
His son, Crown Prince Haakon, has been serving as regent during his absence. King Harald has been Norway’s monarch since 1991.
