Russell Brand has been granted bail after appearing in court charged with two further sexual offences, including rape.
The comedian and actor appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday via video link from the United States, where he faces one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, both alleged to have occurred in 2009.
During the six-minute hearing, Brand spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth. He was granted bail and is due to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 17 February.
According to court documents, the latest alleged offences are said to have taken place in London.
Brand has previously denied two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault relating to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005, involving four women.
A trial concerning those five original charges is scheduled to take place at Southwark Crown Court later this year.
Brand, 50, rose to prominence as a stand-up comedian in the mid-2000s before achieving international recognition through film roles, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) and its spin-off Get Him to the Greek (2010).
