Four, Including Three Teenagers, Killed in Bolton Taxi Crash
Four people, including three teenagers, have died following a fatal collision involving a taxi and a car on Wigan Road, Bolton, in Greater Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 11 January 2026, when a red Seat Leon collided head-on with a Citroen C4 Picasso.
The driver of the Seat Leon and two passengers, all believed to be men aged between 18 and 19, were locally identified by the Bolton Council of Mosques (BCoM) as Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, Farhan Patel, and Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali.
The fourth victim, Mosrab Ali, was also named locally and is believed to have been the taxi driver. Police said he was in his 50s.
All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene. GMP confirmed that five other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Chief Inspector Helen McCormick of GMP described the incident as “devastating,” adding that the crash scene was “particularly challenging” for emergency services. She said formal identification was ongoing and that the families of those believed to be involved had been informed and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
Footage shared online from a nearby property showed the moment of impact, with both vehicles and debris being thrown in different directions following the head-on collision.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said crews were alerted at about 12:50 a.m.
“Three fire engines and the technical response unit attended a crash involving a taxi and a car on Wigan Road, Bolton,” the spokesperson said.
“Firefighters made the area safe and used cutting equipment to free occupants from the vehicles before handing them over to the North West Ambulance Service. Crews were in attendance for roughly two hours, with police assisting to cordon off the area.”
A local resident said she was woken by a “loud bang” and saw “a lot of debris” scattered across the road, adding that the red car involved was “really damaged.”
Bolton Councillor Ayyub Patel described the incident as “incredibly tragic,” saying it had left the entire community devastated. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and urged residents to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
In a statement, the Bolton Council of Mosques said it was deeply saddened by the loss of four young lives and confirmed it was supporting the bereaved families while liaising with relevant authorities.
“It is anticipated that details of the burial will be announced as soon as possible,” the statement said, calling on the public to offer prayers for the deceased and respect the families’ privacy.
GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has appealed for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time of the crash. A cordon remains in place on Wigan Road as investigations continue.
Police said further updates will be released as more information becomes available.
