Colombia Mine Landslide Kills 13 Workers
A landslide at an open-pit mine in Policarpa, southwestern Colombia, has killed 13 workers and injured seven others.
The disaster occurred after part of the mine slope collapsed, trapping workers beneath the debris. Authorities clarified that the incident was caused by a landslide, rather than an explosion as initially reported.
Firefighters, local residents and rescue teams worked through the night using excavators to search for missing workers. The operation ended around 2 a.m. after all those reported missing were located.
The seven injured workers were taken to hospital for treatment, while authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the deadly collapse.
