Schoolgirl Charged After Manchester School Stabbing Leaves Three Injured
A 14-year-old girl has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident at a school in Manchester that left two students and an adult with knife injuries.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at Co-op Academy Manchester in the Blackley area of Manchester, prompting an emergency response from police and medical services.
The victims, a 14-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, and a 27-year-old man, were taken to hospital with knife wounds. Authorities later confirmed that their injuries were not life-threatening, and all three have since been discharged.
Police arrested a 14-year-old girl at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Following her arrest, she was detained under the Mental Health Act for assessment by healthcare professionals before being returned to police custody.
Attempted Murder Charges Filed
On Thursday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the teenager had been charged with three counts of attempted murder and two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises.
She is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Counter-Terrorism Police Leading Investigation
The investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing North West, working alongside Greater Manchester Police.
Authorities have stressed that the incident has not been officially classified as a terrorist attack. However, investigators continue to examine all possible motives and have stated that inquiries remain ongoing.
Detective Chief Superintendent Jonathan Chadwick described the charges as extremely serious and said support continues to be provided to the victims, their families, and the wider school community affected by the incident.
Police also confirmed that searches linked to the investigation are still underway and that detectives are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack.
