UK Braces for Another Heatwave as Temperatures Set to Reach 34°C

The United Kingdom is preparing for another spell of hot weather this week, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 34°C in parts of south-east England, according to the Met Office.

Forecasters say temperatures will gradually rise into the low 30s over the coming days before peaking on Thursday, while parts of the south-east are expected to officially enter a heatwave after forecasts of up to 31°C on Monday.

Although the upcoming hot spell is expected to last for about a week, meteorologists say it is unlikely to be as intense or as humid as the record-breaking heatwave experienced in June.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued yellow heat-health alerts covering the East Midlands, West Midlands, London, and much of southern and eastern England. The alerts, which remain in effect until 11 July, warn that the prolonged high temperatures could pose health risks, particularly to older people, young children, and those with underlying medical conditions.

Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell said overnight temperatures will also remain unusually warm, with much of England experiencing nighttime temperatures in the mid-to-high teens.

While southern England prepares for hot and dry conditions, parts of north-west Scotland are facing a different weather threat. A yellow rain warning has been issued for the region, with forecasters warning that some areas could receive up to 100mm of rainfall over higher ground, raising the risk of localised flooding.

The latest forecast comes just days after the UK recorded a provisional June temperature record of 37.7°C in Lingwood, Norfolk, surpassing the previous June record of 35.6°C, which had stood since 1976.
